Episode 1: a confession, a blessing and a hotel interview

We began with a confession, not a meeting. Isabella tells her mother she cannot say why certain thoughts visit her in her sleep, and that she feels ashamed. Her mother replies that evil cannot stay unless it is invited, asks what she has to do today and sends her to interview Manalo, a rock star, at his hotel that night: “God walks with you.” The meeting moves quickly. Manalo remarks that she is unlike the others, who cannot stop staring, and asks her to relax as he gets dressed. Following a pause, he urges her to give in to whatever she is feeling. Isabella closes the episode by telling him not to touch her.

Episode 2: forgiveness and a car

Two words, “Forgive me,” open episode 2, followed by a confession: Isabella says she let him touch her, that she knew it was wrong and that she wanted it anyway. What follows is a tug of war over her next step. A blunt exchange about what each of them wants finishes with a request that she be his girl. Isabella will not get into the car while other women are inside, so he tells them to get out, and the final scene arrives at the place he calls home. A voice notes that there is a new one, and the episode finishes on an order to go get ready.

Seven episodes and a question of faith

At seven episodes this outlasts the five of most Candy Shorts series, and the premise supplies a theme: Isabella, devout and disciplined, meets Manalo’s charisma and starts questioning what she believed. Both sides of that argument are planted in the free pair: her mother’s blessing, and his invitation to stop fighting what she feels.
