Episode 2: public and private

The following day she is a different person. A voice asks who this human is, and he recalls the night before, as he is now treated like a stranger. She calls someone a stupid peasant and threatens to burn a house down with the family inside if what belongs to her is touched again. When they are alone he says that in front of the others he has no standing. In front of them he is also hers, she answers, and the difference is that “in here, I let you feel it.” She tells him there are no queens tonight, a line recalls that the last three broke, and the episode finishes on an unfinished warning not to dare.

A queen with two faces

Contrast holds the free pair together: the public queen who refuses him, and the private one who admits the claim. The setup promises a reversal in which the man she meant to break begins bending the rules of her bedchamber, her court and her family line. Who is at court

Veyra’s name is spoken in episode 1, when she orders him to say it, and the setup calls the man Ethan, though nothing in the subtitles names him. The rest of the court is a voice and some onlookers without names. Veyra and her human lover are adult characters in a fantasy story, and no filmed performer takes part in it.
