The story then jumps to the club, where a woman presents the new cabana hire as her husband’s nephew. He is the swimmer from the day before.

The woman means to assign him to the deck crew. Sophie takes him for her own team instead, remarking that he would not be the first young man she has taught, and is reminded to stay professional. At the close the nephew asks if she is showing him the ropes. That depends, she says, on what he wants to learn.

Lesson two: a water-safety drill with a witness

Episode 2 starts with Sophie and the nephew by themselves, until a coworker comes in at shift change. She will keep the secret, she says, but she wants in on it. Sophie sends her to the back of the line: “Get in line, Brooklyn.”

Next is the first official lesson, the club’s water-safety certification. Sophie signs it off herself, dismisses the training dummy as useless and makes the nephew her patient. Asked if this is really club policy, she admits she may simply like having him on his back. The episode ends with her announcing that a real lesson is on her mind.

Who runs the beach club, and where does the summer go?
