Move-in day and a first complaint

Riley, the resident adviser, welcomes her floor on move-in day with a promise of a fun semester. The exception then shows up: her stepbrother, who observes that nobody mentioned an all-women floor. Riley walks him along the hall as if giving a tour. Room 304 is Mona, the floor activist, who takes on a cause and a person in the same afternoon. Mila, in room 311, is quiet, a little shy and, to use Riley’s word, dangerous. When someone asks if he is staying, Riley says yes, for the whole week, and tells everyone to enjoy it. Before that, though, she wants him to herself in her room. “House rules start here” is where the episode stops.

Think of episode 2 as a small hearing. Riley’s room is where he gets comfortable, and she comments that their parents would be proud. Then someone lodges an “official complaint”: a man cannot live on this floor, and he must go tonight. He offers to find a hotel. They talk about college being a time for trying new things, and the objection turns into a conditional yes: he could stay, and he could be useful around here. A request for help with something ends the episode, followed by a satisfied reply that this is more like it. Riley Reid is on the dorm floor as a licensed digital twin; the real Riley did not perform in the series. No name is given to the stepbrother, who is 20, and the residents are college students written as adults for a fictional story. The free pair names two of them, Mona and Mila, and both are fictional.
