Her reply is a clock: ten minutes until a shower, and he had better not make her wait.

Episode 2: a refusal, a morning and rule four

The second Candy Shorts episode begins that night. Veronica tells him he is late, then makes an offer that he declines, since he has a girlfriend and she is his dad’s wife. To her this is a delay, not an answer, and she says he is simply not ready yet. Inner voices follow, all of them guilt. Come morning, she calls him handsome and asks if he slept okay, and he answers with a shrug in words. Then rule number four: he does not get to pretend he failed to hear her the night before. Just then his girlfriend announces that she has arrived. He tells Veronica that it is his girlfriend and that they should stop. Veronica replies that she wants him with her while the girlfriend stands outside.

A girlfriend under the same roof

The stepson speaks Veronica’s name aloud. Neither he nor his girlfriend is ever named, and his father is merely mentioned.
